My students have disabilities including, but not limited to: autism, specific learning disability, emotional behavioral disturbance, and cognitive disorders. They come from one of the worst neighborhoods in the city and often receive little or no educational support at home. However, they show up every day ready to learn. They show up despite the cold and heat. Despite the rough home life. Despite the lack of educational support. They show up to learn every day with the deck stacked against them. One of the biggest supports that I can offer my students is the use of technology, computers in particular. Computers offer so many outlets for my students including, but not limited to; support in writing and research, access to copious amounts of educational content, and perhaps most importantly, access to reading programs specifically designed to suit the needs of each student. My students thrive on technology, and it is perhaps their best mode of learning. The use of technology is a strength in their learning.
