South 17th Street's Studio Art classroom is an exciting place of learning through experimentation, discussion and practice of the visual arts. We use many techniques and projects to explore and understand the elements and principles of art. Projects involve inspiration from great masters of fine arts, graphic design, and architecture, while working with paint, found materials, sculpture and clay, to name just a few! In this picture, 8th grade students trace their own shadows as they design and develop a cultural mural to show their energy and interests. Later work includes color and imagery that elucidates their perspective and involvement in the community.
