I teach high school biology in an urban, Title I school in Pennsylvania. My classroom is made up of students from a variety of backgrounds but over 85% of my students are Hispanic, many are English language learners. My students are full of energy and dreams but most have little experience with nature in the world around us. Visuals, collaboration, and lab activities are the focus of learning on my classroom. I am always looking for more tactile ways to teach some of the more abstract concepts in biology to better help my students understand.
