In addition to teaching library skills to students, I also spend a significant part of my day proving intervention for students not quite on grade level. Because they are performing below their grade level peers, these students are often reluctant to participate in class. Educational games provide the "hook" to get these students interested enough in an activity to genuinely put forth an effort to learn the skill. Educational games also provide me a creative way to assess my student's strengths and weaknesses in a nontraditional way. This allows me to further differentiate their learning and pinpoint processing and critical thinking misconceptions that impede their success in the traditional classroom setting. Intervention is a key component to closing the achievement gap for my students. What better way to learn than with a game!
