I already have 11 iPads for the classroom for my 22 students. They are used for SO many things. We have a highly specialized, differentiated program for reading and a different one for math. They are great tools to allow me to meet with students in small groups while other students engage in meaningful work, and a great way to reinforce what I am teaching in a highly engaging format. Video recording is an excellent way to show learning, as an alternative to writing in response to reading as well as documentation of science experiments and observations. In attempting to get closer to a 1:1 classroom, I am requesting 4 additional iPads with cases. With these, students will have the ability to write and revise on Google docs. They will be able to research varied topics and use the internet to find research sources instead of all being given the same topic and given applicable resources that they did not choose or find independently. These practices will increase engagement and give students skills in research and technology that are vital to succeed in their later schooling, and in life beyond that.
