My students are only 3 and 4 years old. They come to Preschool for the first time, from underprivileged homes and communities, so they can receive Special Education services for a variety of handicapping conditions. All of them struggle with Speech/Communication challenges. Some are Autistic, or have Downs Syndrome. Most of my students ride a bus to school and have a difficult time separating from their parents. Many of them have never been in a school setting, or even in a daycare. They come to us to get the early intervention services they qualify for such as Occupational, Physical and Speech therapy. As Preschool educators we all try to help them feel as secure and comfortable with us as possible. With comfortable furniture, to help ease the transition from home to school, I hope to make their transition to school as easy and non-threatening as possible. We hope to provide them with a safe haven to learn. It may turn out to be the safest most secure place in their world.
