These pieces of exercise equipment will go far in helping our students improve their levels of physical fitness and their understanding of how cardiovascular exercise improves their fitness levels. Currently, our students only have access to broken or extremely used machines. The treadmills and elliptical machines we have were all donated (used) by a gym formerly located in our local mall. To say the machines have fallen into disrepair is an understatement. Several of the machines don't have electrical functions anymore and barely work above the minimal line of safety. With the new equipment, students can utilize a proper fitness station routine to improve their health. Students will be able to safely and securely utilize a training regiment that will be fun but also intense. With the addition of the elliptical machines and recumbent bikes, our teachers will finally be able to institute adequate aerobic circuits safely and with reliability. For instance, we will be able to put students into pairs or groups of three for a timed circuit that will consist of power bands, agility ladders, medicine balls, aerobic steps, recumbent bikes, elliptical machines, short hurdles. The students will spend a day in PE rotating through these stations to completion. The following day, the students will complete a strength building unit with our "weight room" equipment. The students will then do 2 more days during that week of aerobic circuit and strength circuit. The new equipment will be able to give our students accurate measures of their heart rate during activity, distance traveled, calories burned, etc. Our after school fitness club will be able to utilize a similar series of circuits especially during the winter time when going outside is not feasible.
