Learning to wrestle with ideas and disagree respectfully is important. Students will use these chapter books in small discussion groups to do just that! We need an interesting variety of strong literature sets to offer students a choice of books to engage with. Choice is motivating. These books will expand the options we can offer throughout the fourth grade year. Discussing good books helps students learn to take another perspective. It could be the perspective of a character or a classmate. Considering all sides of an issue builds respect and deepens understanding. My hope is that we become insightful readers and thoughtful citizens through this project!
