Our school is incredibly diverse. It is not uncommon to find students from many different ethnic, socio-economic, and religious backgrounds in one class, working with and learning from each other. This case is especially truth in Folktales and Mythology. While the students are essentially put into classes with very little choice for the bulk of their schooling, senior year they are allowed to choose from one of eight English courses. Some students wind up in our class because they have dedicated their lives to study of mythology while others simply enjoyed Disney movies growing up and would like to learn a bit more about the origin of those tales. The result is a beautiful mix of students from all walks of life, all interest levels, and a wide variety of learning needs in one classroom. They are bright, inquisitive, boisterous, and uniquely themselves.
