Many city kids never get a chance to experience the great outdoors. In fact, a lot of Parkway's students have never left our city, Philadelphia. This 5-day Outward Bound Backpacking trip gives 11 of our scholars that opportunity and so much more. Our scholars will completely abandon their modern comforts, pack up their backpacks, and learn how to navigate the Appalachian Trail using only a map and each other. They'll learn how to set up and take down camp, cook their own food using a small portable stove, work as a team, and reflect on and learn from their experiences as they navigate miles of trails in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area. Your support will allow kids to have memorable, potentially life-altering experiences. Our intention is to challenge our scholars physically and mentally with the aim of altering their self-efficacy, their views of each other, and their views of the world around them for the better.
