Our school serves a diverse student body. Over 50% of our students are Hispanic, over 26% of our students are Black/African American, over 78% of students are considered economically disadvantaged, and over 37% of students have limited English proficiency. Despite the challenges that many students face daily, they embody one of the defining ideas behind Expeditionary Learning, that, "We are CREW, not passengers." In our 5th grade CREW, we have 22 learners that are hopeful to consistently show perseverance, responsibility, craftsmanship, respect and inquiry. These are Tollgate's 5 Habits of a Learner. My students strive to be a collaborative CREW that supports the academic, social and behavioral learning of each CREWmate.
