Sensory activities and sensory tables facilitate exploration and naturally encourage children to use scientific processes while they play, create, investigate and explore. Spending time stimulating their senses helps children develop cognitively, linguistically, socially and emotionally, physically and creatively. We are constantly switching items in the table to keep students interested and provide multiple sensory experiences. We will use the sand in combination with beach tools and construction toys to give many of the students their first hands on experience with sand! Being a teacher in a inner city school we have to give our students opportunities that they might not receive at home. Learning to ride a bike will help my students develop their gross motor skills (movement and coordination of arms, legs, and body parts.) Currently our two preschool classes share 2 working bikes among 40 kids and that doesn't allow many children to get the opportunity to participate. Also with the rise in obesity in our communities promoting positive things like exercising riding a bike will have life long benefits.
