Help support my 9th graders in experiencing a true STEAM project fully based around our community's food desert. This year we lost our last true grocery store in my school's immediate community. Students with families without a car now live in a food desert. Arm our students with the materials they need to build their own solutions to urban food deserts. Students will research, design, build, and take data to determine if their solution could work on a large scale to feed their community. Using the materials from this Donors Choose, students will get to physically build and maintain a hydroponics system to grow food indoors. Students will analyze their data to determine whether or not their design could be used at a city-scale to feed our local community with nutritious, locally grown food. Students will present their design and project to adult members of our community.
