Each week, the students come to my classroom to receive classroom guidance. During this time, we work on important lifeskills and safety lessons. This should be a time when students are comfortable, relaxed, and safe. A classroom rug that is divided into sections will help provide these things for them. The students will have assigned spots on the rug when they come into my classroom. Their assigned spots on the rug will help them know where to go each week, feel safe in going there, and know that they belong in our group. Each child deserves the right to come to school and feel safe and in my classroom, when they sit on this rug, they will know that this is their safe space. They will be more comfortable and willing to contribute to our classroom discussions.
