My students live and attend school in a very dynamic part of Oakland that has a history of poverty and gang violence. A majority of my students will be first generation high school graduates and the first in their family to attend college. They know this, and know the obstacles that are ahead of them, and use this to motivate their success and to work even harder in school. My school is one where students and staff alike work tirelessly for the success of our young people.
