I teach a special day class in the alternate curriculum program to students with severe autism. They need high-interest activities and materials to fit their individual learning styles. Under normal condition, my students don't like to talk nor communicate with other people. They have poor social skills and very short attention span. They become rowdy when they get bored. However, they have special talents: like singing, dancing, drawing and guided acting in front of the class or on stage. They are always motivated to talk and socialize with others when they hear themselves (their own voices) through the use of microphones. A typical example is when we do role plays during Social Skills elective class, or when we practice a song for special performances, like what we do for 'The Very Special Festival' performance. My goal is to acquire microphones to consequently help them improve on their socialization skills.
