My students love to read. They love picking books out, reading them, and talking about them. However, core books are a different story. The books used to help enrich the 5th grade curriculum are at grade level and not all students are instructionally there yet. Due to that, some students can read independently and comprehend what is going on in the book and others may have a harder time. With that said, having iPads with audio versions of core books will help students' comprehension. The goal of a teacher is to make sure every single student feels successful and I believe having the iPads as a resource will help do exactly that.
