Currently I work at a very special school. It is a wonderful representation of our diverse community in the bay area. Although some of my students are blessed with resources and great support systems, as in most public schools, there are also students with substantial needs. As common in schools around the country, about a third of our student population are English Learners and require additional support to reach their language targets. Approximately 30% of our students are eligible for free and reduced lunch. Although they face additional challenges these students are as eager to learn every day as their peers and make extraordinary gains when given adequate supports. Unfortunately a lot of the additional funds for schools are not available to us because our school does not meet the 50% threshold of need for Title I status. Your assistance in receiving the tools we need to do our best is much appreciated.
