My learners take the ideas that I share with them and apply them in ways that undoubtedly demonstrate their understanding of key concepts. I had not considered this notion fully, when I taught 17 strong-willed individuals the power of persuasion. True to character, they put these ideas to work for them right here in our classroom! I didn't teach them about power in numbers yet they individually and then collectively proposed that we toss out our classroom carpet. They developed reasons that not only supported their claim but were also relevant to their target audience (me). I honestly would have rolled up the carpet and brought it to the dumpster if they noted and argued on a very important function of the carpet-- a space where they can come together to share questions, ideas and knowledge and learning; a space to build our community. I tried to persuade them that we NEED such a space. No amount of words can convince this group though! I am tasked with proving it.
