"Be the change you want to see in the world" I moved from TX to CT to teach inner-city kids last year. I teach science at a school that operates on a zero science budget and is ranked one of the lowest performing schools in CT ( 154 out of 157). More funding cuts were just announced: we no longer have electives, after school activities, central AC or resource officers. I believe in my students & their potential. I want my classroom to be a safe, fun & happy learning environment, where all are welcomed. Gang violence is an everyday occurrence; last year we lost 3 of our students to gang shootings. Over 30% of Bridgeport's children live below the poverty line and the schools reflect this. Many of my students live in public housing or shelters and don't have a place to call their own. I want my classroom to be theirs. Due to the low income district I'm teaching in, I need to reach outside the community for funding.
