During our center time children are able to work independently and in small groups to help increase our reading and writing skills. In second grade we are working on building our reading skills in both fluency and comprehension. One of the best ways for children to increase these skills, especially English language learners, is to listen to modeled reading. With the use of a listening center children can listen to stories at or above their reading level while hearing modeled fluency and practicing their comprehension skills. Everyday we work on helping our students to become the best readers they can be. This listening center will help them gain a skill that will serve them for an entire lifetime, as well as help them to help others. As these students find success in becoming great readers they will be able to share that with their families and inspire those around them. You have the opportunity to make some of the most wonderful classic picture books come to life for these well deserving students. Fostering a love of learning is a community endeavor!
