Students who use these materials attend one of two large public schools (550 students in each). All are receiving Special Education support for Social/Emotional/ Behavioral deficits due to Autism, ADHD, communication disorder. They range from age 4-14. They are all local kids, from within our district, attending school with their siblings, neighbors and peers with whom they have grown up with. They are fully integrated into general education classrooms to the extent that they are able. They receive small group instruction in some core areas (Math and Reading/Writing) and Social Skills. There is a large emphasis on all students participating in extracurricular activities, teams, sports and travel opportunities. For my students, this outside engagement is important for social skill practice. Equally important is the chance for their typical peers to explore socialization with students differently abled than themselves. The acceptance and support demonstrated by all kids are beautiful.
