Lindamood-Bell provides training in a remedial reading program that has shown phenomenal success in helping dyslexic and struggling readers increase their reading abilities. I watched a podcast that discussed the studies conducted at top notch universities including Texas A&M, Georgetown University, the University of Washington Institute for Learning and Brain Science and others. The addition of instruction in symbol imagery had profound effects on the amount of progress students made in reading. The Seeing Stars remedial reading program focuses on developing symbol imagery to enable students to increase their ability to remember sight words, the visual patterns within words, and to perceive the sounds in words. When this instruction was added to traditional phonics instruction, student success rates soared! My school bought the materials for this curriculum for my Title students but can not afford the training sessions that go with it. I am so excited for the opportunity to add something to my instruction that will boost student success but would really like to have the training so I can execute this program with fidelity. So many of my students really struggle with sight words and word patterns and I think this is the perfect program to make a difference in their lives!
