I teach Spanish at Menifee County High School in Frenchburg, Kentucky. Our school system is the heart of community, serving approximately 300 students in grades 9-12. Over the past two years the Spanish program has grown to include 110 students, and next year we will offer the first Spanish 3 class in more than five years. Seventy percent of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Approximately thirty percent of our students are in foster care, and many live with someone other than their biological parent. Most rely on the FRYSC for assistance. Despite such bleak realities, my students have a growth mindset and are passionate in their pursuit of learning. As a MCHS graduate, I knew the challenges that I may face in my classroom. However, I am excited to return to my hometown in order to give back to my community. Your generosity will make a huge impact in my students' experiences in my classroom!
