My students are a wonderful group of individuals. As a whole, they are respectful, hard-working, energetic, and likable. Individually, they represent a wide variety of talents, skills, and interests. Part of what makes teaching so fun and challenging is helping diverse students learn to work together to accomplish great things, to learn to utilize their individual strengths (and to understand their weaknesses) to succeed together. My students enjoy thinking critically; one of the ways we support this is by letting students find a topic they are interested in and then "running" with it. We try to engage students with a social or environmental issue, and then provide them with the tools they need to learn more. The goal is that students think critically about the topic they choose, and eventually infuse their own ideas and thoughts on the topic, blended with the information they've researched from credible sources. They work with others to come up with a way to communicate their ideas.
