This year, our culminating project is to discover a new Earth-like planet that is ready to be colonized, since our own world’s natural resources are mostly depleted. One of my primary goals for this year is to influence students to develop their independent thinking by constructing their colony based on investigations of ancient civilizations. They will then compare the natural resources of those ancient societies to the ones present in today’s world; as well as their social systems and governance structures. My students need a 3D printer and legos to experience what it is like to become an “Agents of Change.” My students are going to work in groups of 4 through the investigation process. Once they reach depth and knowledge on the subject, they will work on their 3D software design creating a colony on the computer. Once they complete this task, they will simulate their 3D computer model on the 3D printer. Then, they will build their future colony using legos. Lastly, they will present their final projects to other students across grade levels as well as to their community.
