As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of them are raised in single parent households and most receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. While they are in my classroom I focus on their potential and growth despite what external factors they may be up against that is the one thing we cannot control or change. A reliable routine allows children to feel safe, and helps them develop a sense of learning. An organized atmosphere allows the students to successfully make their way around the room learning. Though I may not be able to control their reality outside of school, I do control their experience during the school day. I am hopeful to inspire our earliest learners to continue a path of excellence. It is my goal to help every child reach his or her greatest potential through daily routines and organization.
