I teach 5th grade in a departmentalized setting, so I teach as many as 60 students per day. This grant will also support over 60 students in 4th grade, as well, as they are invited to join the book clubs. The school is located in multiple town suburban setting with many corporate home offices, factories, and processing plants which attract both culturally diverse higher income professionals and a lower income manual labor workforce. The school district serves a community of nearly 56,000 residents. 60% of our student population is Caucasian, 29% Hispanic, 5% Asian, and 6% other. Poverty is prevalent in our area, and over 54% of our students receive free or reduced lunch services. Our school has a strong supportive culture that encourages a growth mindset and pushes our students to work hard and achieve their personal best. This approach has helped our school to be named one of the top ranking elementary schools in the state.
