I have a multicultural classroom with international impact. Students here are from all over the globe and travel often creating a great opportunity for international reach. The students have differentiated learning needs including IEP and 504 students that are fully integrated into every classroom environment. Due to this, I am required as an educator to employ a myriad of best practices for teaching effectively. We do a lot of field experiences using the environment here in Hawaii to teach about sustainability practices and solutions. We also integrate the arts (drama, digital, and visual) into the classroom to enhance learning. At this school students have the opportunity to guide their own learning in real world experiences and scenarios. The charter school is in its third year and is founded on essential questions of sustainability. The students here are taught to ask questions and collaborate to build understanding through project based learning in the real world environment.
