These books will make a difference in my students' lives in several ways. First, they will provide high interest books on their individual reading level. Second, they will expose my students to a variety of authors and genres. Lastly, they will hope to stimulate my students' interest in reading. Students need to read books that interest them and, that they can read themselves. There are a lot of great books for middle school students. The challenge is finding a great book at an attainable reading level. After reading many books, I have been able to select books that are high interest and accessible. Many students are exposed to reading through the school district's literature anthology selection. While those anthologies may contain great literature, you need supplemental materials from which to pull. After you get to know your students, and you know their favorite TV show, hobby, or sport, you might be able to pull the right book for them...if you have it. It is way easier to get a kid reading if you can physically put the book in his/her hand- the first and most important step.
