My 4th graders are curious, hard-working, and wonderful kids. They have a thirst for learning that cannot be clenched. They come from low socio-economic backgrounds and have little to no access of modern technology at home. Although my school managed to provide three computer labs, it is being shared among 700 to 750 kids (Pre k-6), and most of the time spent in the computer lab is being used for testing and not research. Schools serving low socio-economic students receive fewer help in resources, have less parent involvement, and run into more problems addressing the needs of the diverse student community. My children are put at a disadvantage from the beginning, despite the widespread belief that children education is important, because of the lack of funding. It is true that the kids are our future. They are the ones who will be inheriting the world and who will one day lead us.
