Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech is an exceptional novel. It covers so many topics beyond reading! While reading this novel, students go on a journey with a young girl, Salamanca, in search of her mother. She travels through multiple states meeting many different types of people. These books will provide lessons in reading, geography, culture, and social skills. Hands on activities are endless for this book! Students will receive maps in order to track the travels of Salamanca in the novel. Walk Two Moons provides the opportunity for 5th graders to research Salamanca's Native American background. Creech keeps readers on their toes guessing what will happen next! This gives students excellent opportunities to use their inferencing skills. The author also uses extremely vivid, descriptive writing giving artistic and visual students a chance to recreate what they imagine while engaged in Walk Two Moons.
