My classroom consists of a variety of learners. It is a reverse mainstream class where the majority of students have some sort of special needs, and there are a few typically developing students to serve as peer role models. I have multiple students who come to school hungry...everyday. Some don't eat before school, some only eat junk food before school, and many do not have the opportunity to try fresh foods. A general rule of my class during snack is, "You have to try it, and if you don't like it, we will find something else." Most of the time, my students have no problem going for seconds or thirds! I love to be able to provide my students exposure to things they do not normally do, see, or eat. I feel the best way to teach is through hands-on learning. Fortunately, I am lucky enough to be able to do this everyday in my classroom. Seeing a child get excited about learning and being at school is the most rewarding experience I can imagine.
