The amount of time I have available to teach science in a typical fourth grade school day continues to shrink due to my state's ever increasing emphasis on math and reading state mandated testing. Consequently, it is necessary to find ways to integrate science lessons into my reading curriculum whenever possible. Eureka! Grade 3-5 Science Activities and Stories is filled with a variety of science lessons that meet the Next Generation Science Standards through the use of picture books. The picture books introduce students to the science concept in a non-threatening way, serve as a starting point for further investigation by the students, and can be used to teach important language arts skills as well. Eureka! 3-5 Science Activities and Stories, along with the accompanying picture books, would help me provide my students with the science instruction they need while fulfilling the curriculum requirements for their reading instruction at the same time.
