Fashion is Art . . . my Fabric and Fashion students have put this idea into action through the designs they submit to the College Board for their AP 3D Studio Art portfolios. Each portfolio consists of 3 sections: Quality (their best work), Breadth (their understanding of design issues), and Concentration (their designs focusing on a central idea). As you can see from the image, my students do not use typical fabrics or textile supplies to create their designs. When they choose their Concentration, they are looking at how they can make designs out of non-traditional materials; this is also true when they create the Breadth portion of their portfolio. For my students, materials can be out of reach because of financial need. The AP 3D Studio Art portfolio is a great way for them to put their design skills to the test, but they need help purchasing supplies for their designs!
