My goal is to create a space that children want to come to each morning and learn. I want a space that promotes collaborative learning, team work, problem solving, and discussion. I want my students to feel comfortable and safe. Through flexible seating, I believe that I can achieve these goals. Flexible seating will allow my students to choose where and how they would like to learn. Would it be at stand up desk? How about a "wiggle seat?" Maybe today it will be the stability ball or bean bag chair? All of these options promote movement and movement increases engagement. When students are engaged, they are learning. Over the past two years, I have experimented with flexible seating, and I have seen an increase in student growth and achievement. My students are more eager to learn and enjoy the responsibility that comes with choosing their own work spot. At this time, students take turns using the flexible seating options, while many are stuck in plastic chairs. I am looking forward to launching an ENTIRE classroom of flexible seating options this school year! With your help, there will be a special work space for ALL of my students!
