My classroom consists of six students who have all been medically diagnosed with an Emotional or Behavioral Disorder which affects their academic success. Walking through the doors of the school each day is a challenge for these students therefore, it is essential that we make our environment comfortable and safe for the students. Most of the students have difficulty with social interaction, anger management, and controlling their emotions making a self-contained setting appropriate for their learning. In order to meet their unique needs, the use of technology and hands-on activities are essential for success. Most programs we use are computer based and their academic learning has increased through the use of these programs. Our goal this school year is to move forward in mainstreaming these students into the general education setting. This is a great challenge, but can be done with consistency and structure.
