I teach 4th grade in a Title One school in South Carolina. Our school has over 96 percent of students on free or reduced lunch. My students are predominately African American. We do have an increasing Hispanic population as well. The students I am blessed enough to teach are lucky to get a good nights rest and healthy breakfast before school, or to have the basic materials needed for learning. Many of their parents didn't graduate high school so the importance of education is often swept under the rug. These children need the opportunity to be excited about school, and learning so they can reach their full potential.
