My first graders are brilliant, young and excited minds. They are strong 6 and 7 year olds who can and will overcome the challenges in their life. Our school is in a high poverty and high crime area. Over 90% of students are living in poverty and every student receives free breakfast and lunch. Resources are limited and teachers acquire what they can, but our students deserve access to high quality and engaging materials and manipulatives. Projects like this can help close the gap and provide the opportunities to students that they deserve.
