Flexible seating has been a growing topic amongst teachers for the past few years and for good reason! Flexible seating has a multitude of benefits including releasing excess energy, adding a level of fitness to learning by burning more calories, improving posture and balance, increasing motivation and engagement, and fostering a deeper connection to the classroom community. I am requesting wobble stools, balancing cushions, and stability balls as different seating options to place throughout our classroom. I will be lowering one of my classroom tables, and with the help of the balancing cushions, allow my students the opportunity to sit comfortably on the floor. The wobble stools and the stability balls will be used to provide the students with a little more mobility while they work. They will be able to wiggle and move around a bit all while sitting comfortably at a desk or large table. Many of my students, including the ones that have been diagnosed with ADHD, have trouble sitting still. I am hoping to provide a safe and engaging alternative that will increase their motivation and productivity. With your generous and benevolent donation to our classroom, you will be providing my students the opportunity to actively engage not just their minds but their bodies as well. We challenge children to think outside of the box and to find creative solutions to existing problems. These flexible seating options will allow students the ability to freely think and concentrate on their work. Without having to worry about uncomfortable chairs or their need to move, they will be able to conquer the task set before them.
