My students have moderate, severe, and profound disabilities and are instructed in the areas of communication, behavior, and functional life skills. My classes focus on increasing independence and instruction/planning into adulthood. A majority of my students are limited in their communication (e.g. make noises to indicate preference, use pictures to communicate, or lack appropriate conversation skills). Most are able to walk without support (e.g.wheelchair), however some of their gross motor skills are still delayed). Most of my students love to listen to music, they love being read too, love to be around their peers, "want abs", and enjoy being in the kitchen. My students are with me all day, every day, unless we have adapted physical education class (every other day for 90 minutes). Students from the school write essays and are chosen to participate in this P.E. program with my students. Our school environment is inclusive and caring, tolerate and supportive. Love my job!
