My students are first graders. Our class has an even distribution of male and female. We are a class with a wide variety of needs. First graders are very eager to learn and sincerely want to do their best in school. They come to school with smiles and hugs. They want to unlock the magic of reading so that they can read like the older students. They want to find that magic of reading so that they can take it home to share with younger brothers, sisters and caretakers. Many of our students are being raised by grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, single parents. Our socioeconomic level is low to middle. We as a staff try to meet the academic, emotional needs and social needs of our students
