My school seems to be the epitome of a melting pot. I teach around 150 8th graders who come from all backgrounds. I have White, African-American, Asian and Latino students, all representing their cultures to the fullest. I have students who start the school year speaking no English, some have never even seen the inside of a classroom. I have learned more about different cultures as a whole just from being in such a diverse school. Overall, my school is considered a low-income school, but we live near a resort town, so there are some students who live in million dollar homes. I have students who will never want for anything and even more that will work to help their parents pay the monthly bills. The best thing about the great diversity I see on a daily basis is how the students interact. The students in our school don't see physical or materialistic differences. They see each other as humans who are all going through this thing called middle school and they do it together.
