In a typical year my students have ample opportunity to grow their fine motor skills to improve their pencil grip, letter formation, and ability to write fluently by using Play Doh, lacing cards, blocks and Legos among many other things. Typically those modalities are shared between students in my classroom; however, due to Covid-19 we are starting the year in a full distance learning model and my students will not have access to these tools. In the event that we are able to return to in person learning, my students will still not be able to share materials as they have in the past. Because of the demographics of the families I serve, parents may not be able to provide these necessary resources for our student to develop strong fine motor skills. It is my hope to gift each student with their own personal set of tools to use to develop the fine motor skills a kindergartner needs to become a proficient learner.
