My students are freshmen and sophomores who come from all across the city of Milwaukee. My physical science and biology classes serve as their introduction to high school-level science and are thus a great opportunity to spark their interest and develop their critical thinking skills. Their repertoires of knowledge are highly varied, but most of my students have had a limited exposure to science throughout their elementary school experiences. As is the case with many students, direct instruction is not necessarily the most conducive method of instruction for my students, especially as they gradually transition to high school, which is why I would like to appeal to as many different learning profiles as possible through a hands-on learning approach.
