My Students I teach in a Title 1 school where 100% of my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. I teach fifty-seven 6th to 8th grade ESL students who are refugees, immigrants, or who are children of immigrants. My students often come to me understanding basic elementary or survival vocabulary, usually read around 1st-2nd grade, can write basic words and sometimes simple sentences, and can generally speak conversational English. However, at the end of the year they are required to take the state mandated reading and writing tests which are on the 6th to 8th grade level
