We are starting a 4th grade author study on Kate DiCamillo. Each day we read various books to our class and have to make photo copies in order for the kids to follow along. I have the fondest memories of opening, holding and reading a new book in school and being able to take it home to read ahead at the "good" parts. It is a severe struggle to get my students to read and enjoy reading when they are worried about how they are going to get home. Having their own book would most definitely increase their enthusiasm and assist in their evidence search when answering specific questions about the text.
