I teach K-5th grade special education and I love the population I work with. Whether in my room or during inclusion, I give my students the help and support that will help them be successful despite their various disabilities. I see them as "differently-abled," not "dis-abled," because there are so many things they are good at. The reality of special needs, however, is that it comes with a stigma. Other children have trouble relating to them and sometimes do not understand why they are how they are. Reading a student a book about a child they have something in common with is vital to their emotional development as they compensate for their disability and try to make friends with general education students.

About my class
