We are at the end of the school year and that means my students and I are doing a lot of events to recruit more band members. I am holding after-school rehearsals from now until graduation. The students are working hard to present the best notes and rhythms to the feeder middle schools when we go to visit. Pre-season is in full swing, and we are in full audition mode for our talented percussion students. At the start of auditions, however, something went wrong. The students pulled out the marching percussion equipment and it wasn't twenty minutes into auditions when the majority of the drum heads broke into shreds. But the remarkable thing was that they didn't want to stop practicing. It's in my students' nature to "make do" without complaint and I have nothing but respect for that. That's what the majority of them know growing up. I am the type of educator that supports the students taking action against their troubles in a positive fashion. With the financial struggles my district has faced in the past, I wish to be sure I can provide the necessary materials for the upcoming marching season without worry. I wish to continue to show our student body that everyone, as a classroom community, should care about getting equipment to perform their best at competitions, sporting events, parades, and any other event that supports community togetherness in our town. The equipment will round out the marching band's sound, and all students will want to work that much harder as a result. Will you consider making a generous donation to our project? Through you and donors all across the country I can prove to the students that when the tough get going, positively great things can happen!
