As a 1st Grade teacher, I find it very important to find technology resources that will help my students become more engaged in the standards they are learning. I have just finished my masters program where I received my degree in Curriculum & Instruction. As I was working through this program I realized that technology plays an important role in the 21st Century and if we want our children to be prepared for their college and career journeys they will need to be exposed to technology. In the 21st Century we enter a global society where specific skills are vital in order for us to survive. Technology will be a crucial skill that students will need to be able to be knowledgeable about. I have requested two mini iPads and protective cases for my classroom for the 2016-17 academic school year. These iPads will be used during our literacy and math stations to provide differentiated learning to fit the needs of each specific student. During the literacy block, students will use iPads to practice vocabulary, phonics, handwriting, as well as read stories and answer comprehension questions. During our math block, students will explore math concepts learned in class such as financial literacy, place value, addition and subtraction, word problems and geometry. Having the opportunity to use iPads in the classroom will definitely spark their interest in learning and keep their full attention. They think they are playing games, and I know they are being engaged in meaningful instruction. It’s the best of both worlds!
